Samuel Bronston: A Great Man of Cinema

Samuel: Hollywood vs. Hollywood screened at The Screening Room on April 22 to an attentive audience. Samuel Bronston created in Spain a parallel Hollywood much bigger than the Californian one and that provoked the wrath of an industry that ended up devouring and destroying him. Film director Juan Antonio Tirado travelled from Spain to be in attendance with Bronston's grown-up kids.

Give Peace a Chance!

An excited audience attended an eye-opening program about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at The Screening Room on Sunday, April 21. The program included a screening of the provocative documentary, THE OTHER, followed by a lively discussion with the filmmaker and Israeli Palestinian participants from the film. As a bonus, there was a live music performance by System Ali.

Opening Night Celebration

Opening Night was a remarkable evening of Native American music, film and culture at the outdoor Mercado venue. Honorary Chair Jon Santaanta Proudstar was on hand to sign his Tribal Force comic book while award-winning Tony Redhouse entranced the audience with an incredible native flute performance. Crowning the night was the film premiere of Cafe Daughter by Mohawk filmmaker, Shelley Niro.  Based on real events, a mother hides her children's Cree identity to save them from the fate of their suppressed indigenous ancestry and give them a better life. Good vibes from a happy audience has set the tone for the Festival.

Out-of-town visitors have a variety of choices when it comes to resting their heads after an exciting day at the Festival!  The Ramada Inn, our official Festival hotel, located on the modern streetcar line; the Downtown  Clifton with its stylish Sonoran Moderne ambiance; the Graduate Tucson with its14th-story rooftop restauarnt and pool, and the historical Hotel Congress, which housed and aided in the arrest of infamous bank robber John Dillinger,   Each hotel features discounted rates for anyone attending the Arizona International Film Festival.
