Quail Lake
Roman Wyden
United States, 2019, 89 min.
In English with French subtitles.
Includes violence and adult language.
Brittany, a young backpacker looking to escape her life, and Laurent, a French man trying to erase his past, share a cabin for a weekend; despite the fact that neither of them wants the other around. What starts as a hostile relationship, blossoms into one of deep understanding and sympathy. It's only through this shared connection, that both overcome their own inner demons and start fresh in a world that doesn't seem to care.
Director's Statement
As a director I am committed to exploring the delicate space of intimacy between my characters and the actors playing them. All my films deep-dive into the texture of the characters' lives and issues, usually stemming from an either abusive past or a narrow-minded up-bringing that shaped their world view. I believe that as filmmakers we have an obligation to tell compelling stories that stimulate conversations once the audience leaves the theater or finishes watching the film on TV or via streaming. If there is nothing to talk about once the film wants, I did not do my job well.
