La Estrella
Gabriela Díaz Arp
United States, 2026, 22 min.
In Spanish with English subtitles.
This film is family friendly.
La Estrella is a tender portrait of a tight-knit Mexican-American family grappling with the entrance of fentanyl into their community. Set across two timelines, the story follows José, a gentle, but withdrawn teenager struggling to gain his momentum, and his older brother Diego, a charismatic and ambitious college student struggling with the stress of family expectations.
Director's Statement
This film was made in collaboration with the non-profit Song for Charlie and is based on interviews we conducted with families who have lost loved ones to fentanyl. We hope their memory comes through the care and love we put into the film.
