Hope

Michael Scherrer
Switzerland, 2016, 6 min.

"Hope" tells the story of a little boy, who is condemned to spend the time he has left in a prisoners' camp. The memories of his mother are the only thing keeping him alive.

Director's Statement

The film is not set in a specific time or era. We did not want to populate the film with captious symbols and associate it with a regime or historic event. All content should remain anonymous and interchangeable. We are always very close to what is happening. I didn't want to show huge warehouses or gigantic crowds. The environment is always saturated with dense fog and rain. We are concerned primarily about the individual fate of the boy, his mother and ultimately, the guards. We only show the main characters clearly, this allows us to support the intensity of the film.
