Hemorrhage

United States, 2023, 4 min.
In English.

Animation against the evisceration of American women's reproductive rights. An iterative process incorporating rubbings, images, text and voices from the New York Times and the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health arguments before the United States Supreme Court moves the film from formal experimentation to an expression of outrage about the effects of abortion bans on women's health.
Director's Statement
The 2022 United States Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health that eviscerated constitutional guarantees to privacy and bodily autonomy motivated me to create this work. Seeking an outlet for my anger, I began an iterative pricess of making and animating rubbings, gradually adding other elements to the original images. This film documents the alarm that I and others feel at the end of Roe, while also serving as an experiment in responding to political events through animation.
