Ellie

Joshua Seigel
United States, 2014, 5 min.

In English.
This film is family friendly.

An autistic teen walks down a road, alone, and we experience his memories with his best friend, a dog. We discover his dog is gone and follow the boy through this experience. He takes us on a short journey, discovering his way of dealing with loss for the first time. We see if he can ever let go of his old friend, and if what he's seeing is real.

Director's Statement

I had a script, a camera, a free weekend to film, and an actress. This was not the script for Ellie. It was a longer script that required an actress, who, at the last moment, bailed. Instead of giving up on our plans to make a movie, we decided to 'just have fun.' Within an hour of getting the news our actress bailed, I had written a script and started shooting Ellie. And 24 hours later, the filming and editing was complete. Instead of the messy, cute video I was expecting, I got something that I was truly proud of.
