Perros (Dogs)
Gerardo Minutti Bonilla
Uruguay, 2025, 102 min.
In Español with Inglés subtitles.
The Saldañas have new tasks for the summer: looking after the dog and house of the Pernas, their neighbours. The house is a small luxury that is the envy of the neighbourhood, and the Saldañas, abusing their duties as improvised caretakers, will spend their own holidays there. The unexpected disappearance of the dog will trigger a violent, miserable and psychological confrontation between the two families.
Director's Statement
Perros is a story about the bond between two neighbouring families, whose seemingly harmonious coexistence reveals small miseries that are part of everyday life. These miseries, as common as they are inevitable, often define us. The film explores our closest bonds: family, neighbours, community. And it brings into play the way we choose to relate to each other, a dynamic where secrets, omissions and lies take centre stage. Ultimately, Perros delves into the imperfect, grey and murky side of the human condition, but one that, even in its darkness, harbours glimmers of light.
