Wake

Australia, 2023, 9 min.
In English.
Includes adult language.
'Wake' is a poignant tale of two brothers Syd and Elijah, who are on their annual camping trip in the Australian bushland together. However, Elijah finds it hard to stay present during the trip with his older brother Syd, as there is an aching weight within himself that he does not want to face – Syd’s unforgiving battle with terminal cancer.
Director's Statement
What happens in the silence between words? In ‘Wake’, grief, loss, and brotherhood unfold in those quiet moments between the brothers. I wanted to capture the raw moments that define grief, loss and human connection. Wake invites audiences into the unspoken taboos of death and relationships, immersing them in the intimate and emotional journey of accepting the loss of a loved one. My hope is that ‘Wake’ lingers in the minds of its audience long after credits roll, leaving them not just reflecting, but feeling the fragility of life and the connections that endure in a deeply personal way.
