Many Bones, One Heart

Leslie Ann Epperson
United States, 2015, 79 min.

In English.
This film is family friendly.

Many Bones, One Heart begins in the empty night streets of Tucson. It ends on a dusty lot the day after the 2012 All Souls Procession. What happens between traces the history of the event from its inception in 1990 until now, a story told by the founders and volunteers who have shepherded the once small artist's parade to the popular cultural event of today. Book-ended by the 2012 All Souls Procession, the film travels back in time, revealing details about the main characters, and depicting the healing fostered by creating a sacred public space to honor the beloved deceased.

Director's Statement

When I first observed the All Souls Procession, the jubilant, costumed participants, and the cacophony of sounds were delightful. But it was the shrines and photographs created by folks to honor their beloved dead that moved me to begin creating a documentary. Since 2010, I have devoted most of my time to producing the film, in hopes of revealing the healing power of giving creative voice to grief, aiming to portray the nourishing compassion cultivated when we share our deepest sorrows'a regenerating grace tilled in the profound earth of suffering common to all who have ever loved and lost.
