The GOAT
Dean Kobs
United States, 2024, 6.5 min.
This film is family friendly.
In a race towards a shared deadline, two aging animation directors, once friends with a shared past, embark on creating their final films. As "The GOAT" succumbs to an obsessive pursuit of greatness, his unraveling sanity manifests in a surreal--though apt--transformation, resulting in a spiral of one-sided rivalry, anger, and destruction. The two friends-turned-rivals must choose between rejection or acceptance of one another and their history.
Director's Statement
I believe in Animation as a medium of pure creation with potential to tell any story. I set out to make an animation that showcases the very medium from within, while maintaining a concise and personal story. As I embarked on this task, I was delighted to hear varying takes on who the directors in my film could represent; all those who love film and animation can recognize the directors dedicated to great storytelling. This was a rewarding reflection of my goal - to make a film that celebrates the medium and those who use it to tell compelling stories.
