Lollie

Agnès Shinozaki
Brazil, 2025, 17.54 min.

In Portuguese with English subtitles.
This film is family friendly.

After the closure of the hospital she worked at, Gabi, a young low-income lunch lady, fights to protect her friend Lola, a 71-year-old woman with disabilities. Having lived at the hospital's facilities for countless years, Lola doesn't have anyone and was left at a neglectful shelter for homeless psychiatric patients. Gabi will do whatever she can to care for Lola, starting with one “lollie" a day. Soon Gabi realizes that her bond with Lola transcends friendship - it's more like family now. What she's yet to find out is what role Lola will play in her life.

Director's Statement

I'm an irrevocable romantic and I'm also a huge advocate and admirer of the elderly and the atypical - being neurodivergent myself. So I guess it's pretty obvious why I was in absolute shock, awe and tears when I saw a news story on local TV a few years ago, about a family that had adopted an elderly atypical lady. It's an unexplored topic that deserves attention and is absolutely inspiring. The bond between mother and child transcends boundaries of place, time... And age, in this particular scenario. At this point, nothing else matters, it takes over. Love is unpredictable.
