Baby Love

Kate Kelsen
United States, 2024, 7 min.

In English.

When sixteen-year-old Lola goes to the local clinic for an abortion, she meets resistance from Ivy, the physician assistant who suggests adoption. Ivy is sympathetic when Lola tearfully reveals that she had an inappropriate relationship an older man. However, midway through the appointment, Lola discovers Ivy’s husband is the father of her baby. When Ivy realizes the situation, she goes into full blown hypocrisy and encourages Lola to forge her parent’s signature on the consent form. Ivy simply wants this horrible “thing” to go away. However, Lola turns the tables when she declines to sign the consent form.

Director's Statement

This film highlights two issues facing women. The first is the rampant hypocritical attacks on a woman’s right to choose. The second is the “grooming” of young women. The hypocrisy in our country -- “fake news” and the erosion of our constitutional freedoms -- is beyond alarming. This story was inspired by the overruling of Roe v. Wade and the escalating attacks on a woman’s access to comprehensive health care, and in particular, reproductive rights. It is my belief that these issues should not be gender specific and therefore, my hope is that this film touches everyone.
