Cor de Pele

Livia Perini
Brazil, 2018, 16 min.

In Portuguese with English subtitles.
This film is family friendly.

Cor de Pele is a sensitive documentary about the life of Kauan, an 11 year-old albino boy. Born to black parents, Kauan describes in a playful, spontaneous way his day-to-day routine with his atypical family, as he has five siblings: two albino ones and three black ones. Even with all of his conditions and limitations, he breaks barriers and inserts himself in the abundant black local culture of his home town.

Director's Statement

I came across the story of Kauan and his family through a conversation with Alexandre Severo, a Brazilian photographer, who died in 2014, when he presented me his article "Flor da Pele," which was very impactful and made me want to get acquainted with the day-to-day life of Olinda's albinos. Since then, I am immersed in the desire to meet this mother's family, who had three black children and three black albino children. The mini-doc shows through the eyes of the boy Kauan, the youngest of the albinos, how it is to live in a city surrounded by black culture and very hot for his sensitive skin.
