Last Dance at Johnson's Barn

Clay Haskell
United States, 2018, 18 min.

In English.
This film is family friendly.

Since 1952, generations of North Dakota families have attended dances at Johnson's Barn. The barn is an icon on the prairie - so integral to the community fabric that scarcely a family in the region can’t trace a courtship or marriage back to the barn. But when the farm's owner, Brian Johnson, falls ill, he and his family face a heartbreaking decision.

Director's Statement

Documentary films are often driven by big social and political issues rather than by emotions. However, when I watch films, the most important thing for me is to feel emotionally connected to the people and places I see on the screen. I set out to make a documentary film that focuses on this kind of emotional connection with the audience. I wanted to let the issues at the core of this film follow the emotional lead and not the other way around.

Category: Documentary.
Themes: Community, Family, Relationships.
