A single country woman sets her heart on a neighbour. When she discovers her love interest kept secrets all along, revenge proves to be sweet. First Bloom is a charming slice of life comedy-drama set in modern day rural Tipperary. It’s a story of a mother and daughter’s broken love, betrayal and healing…with a sprinkling of sweet revenge thrown in. It features four extraordinary characters, a canny, mischievous mother, and her big-hearted, trusting daughter and the other two – well, they get more than they bargained for. It’s a beautifully shot and entertaining short film, full of pathos and humour.
Director's Statement
When I first read "First Bloom" by Carrie Brady, I was struck by how sharp, funny, and emotionally layered it was. Caroline’s script is full of warmth and wit, but it also carries a kind of ubiquitous sadness, a story of small disappointments, unfulfilled hope, and the quiet strength of women who just keep going. As a young male director, I asked myself why I was drawn to telling a story so rooted in female experience. The answer is simple: these are the kinds of people I grew up surrounded by, Irish mothers, daughters, women holding families and rural communities together
