Hope is on the Way is a short documentary that explores the power of hope through the voices of everyday people. As an Uber driver named Hope (the English translation of the filmmaker’s Russian name), she asks her passengers one simple question: “What is your hope?” Blending participatory, observational, and interactive styles, the film captures honest and moving moments inside the car.
Director's Statement
Hearing from my passengers that seeing “Hope is on the Way” gives them hope made me happy — it felt good to know that my given name could brighten someone’s day. By asking a simple question, “What is your hope?”, we see how hope connects people — no matter their background. In these short conversations, passengers open up in a special way.
