Seeds of Sovereignty features Mexico's escalating battle with the U.S. to defend its biodiversity, food sovereignty, and cultural heritage. At the heart of the conflict is a U.S. push to force Mexico to adopt GMO corn and industrial farming practices, threatening the nation’s traditional agriculture and environmental health. The Mexican government and advocacy groups resist, fighting to protect traditional agriculture and sustainability. Through striking visuals and compelling stories, the film exposes industrial farming’s harmful impacts in both nations and challenges viewers to consider a country’s right to provide safe, nutritious food while preserving its environment and identity.
Director's Statement
Mexico is fighting to protect its native seeds, land, and people from GMOs and toxic agrochemicals. Seeds of Sovereignty is more than a film—it’s about identity, resistance, and the right to define our future. Through interviews and striking visuals, we explore grassroots movements and legal victories against corporate and political pressure. This is a fight for biodiversity, food sovereignty, and sustainable farming. Who controls our food? What are the costs of prioritizing profit over people and the planet? Seeds of Sovereignty urges us to choose a model that nourishes both humanity and the environment—for future generations.
