Jarvis Rockwell

Rachel Victor
United States, 2016, 39 min.

In English.
This film is family friendly.

Jarvis, eldest son of America's premiere illustrator, Norman Rockwell, finds himself trapped in a childhood posing for his workaholic Pop, and breaks away to embark on a strange journey through art and obsessive collecting, with a totally unexpected outcome. Through the process, Jarvis reconciles with Pop, an ever-present spirit.

Director's Statement

I discovered Jarvis' work at Mass MoCA in 2001. At first, I fell in love with the visuals of his art. From twenty feet away his acrylic houses displaying odd gatherings are quite remarkable and aesthetically appealing. Upon closer inspection, the details reveal a less jolly side. In fact, there is more than a hint of violence but one that is silently contained, darkness made visible, humans coping with monsters. Jarvis works on many levels, I am so excited to bring a story about this artist to screen.
