Eighteen year-old Gordie is left to “sleep it off” after a fraternity drinking party. Ten hours later he is face down on the floor, dead from alcohol-poisoning.
Alcohol is the #1 health risk facing students today. Yet parents and students are barely aware of this epidemic, which causes more than 1,700 deaths each year.
In addition to relating the tragic story of a University of Colorado freshman and its consequences for his family, the documentary explores the broader social context in which student alcohol consumption occurs. Footage of contemporary college life alternates with interviews of college officials, medical professionals and national experts, who share their observations and insights.
Born on Long Island, director Pete Schuermann currently resides in Colorado, where he is the creative director for Watt Imagination!. In addition to narrative features, his portfolio contains several high-profile short-subject films, including Star Warp’d and Hick Trek, a parody of Star Trek.
